  • Description : On a parallel run with NSW locos 3801 and 3820 during Easter 1973, R707 shows that she is no slouch, and that the North British built Hudson class locos warrant direct comparison with the Australian made Pacifics. Indeed, the two classes of locos saw very similar service, built for express passenger work, but in many cases serving out their days until the very end of steam in goods traffic.

The occasion was the Easter Steam Festival in 1973, when two 38 class visited Victoria for the first time since the opening of the standard gauge line to Melbourne in 1963.
