  • Date : Jan 1989, catalogued 21 Sep 1998
  • Photographer : John Hurst
  • Medium : Ektachrome, slide number 17517
  • Description : Detail of the power train on the Climax. Notice the squared takeoff shaft connecting the gearbox with the forward bogie, and the water syphoning hose for refilling the boiler. This would be particularly relevant in logging use, where tracks would often be temporarily laid through mountainous areas, and the only water sources would be creeks and streams. In Puffing Billy service, there are sufficient regular water columns for these hoses to be purely for historical accuracy.
