Puffing Billy NA Class 2-6-2 Prairie Tank

The NA class is Puffing Billy, at least to the travelling public! Built by Baldwin and the VR Newport workshops from the turn of the (20th) century, they saw service on all the narrow gauge lines of the VR network.

They are hard-working, nuggetty little locomotives, well liked by both crews and public for their 19th century appearance and reliability.

This photo was taken by me while we were waiting for the professional photographer for my friend's wedding to arrive. I heard Puffing Billy in the distance just as we arrived at the bridge (Belgrave - Gembrook Road) and my friend asked me to take a photo of him and his best man as the train rolls by.
Even though this was taken 10 days before Christmas Day (2001) I was surprised to see all the Santa's on the train !! That's what I found exciting about this pic. You often see people leaning out of the carriages, but I have never seen Santas doing so!
