27 Dec 2016 (4) An attempt to travel by Amtrak from Boston to Buffalo proved to be a big fizzer. The first section of travel, from Boston to Albany, was replaced by a (single) bus, due to track work, and it stopped at all stations where the train would have stopped, making the journey very tedious. The second section Albany to Buffalo was by rail, but in the dark, so we did not get to see much railway activity. However, here a few photos from that trip.

(5) On our cruise from Boston to Rotterdam and return, we spent a day in St. Johns, Newfoundland, where there was once a thriving railway. Now completely defunct, the station at St Johns has been preserved as a museum, and here are some photos taken at the museum.

19 Dec 2016 (9) Port Stanley is a delightful little tourist railway operating over the last 11 kms of The London and Port Stanley Railway Company, construction of which was completed in 1856. Port Stanley is on the shores of Lake Erie, and was once a thriving port, shipping out coal and timber via the Great Lakes. We went for a ride on the train, and enjoyed great Canadian hospitality!

16 Dec 2016 (11) Oops! I added some more of Bill's photos, then discovered that I had already done so nearly seven years ago! That is how long it has taken me to finish this batch of photos. Sorry, Bill!

15 Dec 2016 (12) A recent visit to New Zealand and the Bay of Islands saw some updates to what I previously called the "Opua" railway. The line into Opua is currently closed, but the Bay of Islands Vintage Railway still operates out of Kawakawa, and there are plans to re-open the line to Opua
