Isle of Man Railways

Friends of ours had previously urged us to visit the Isle of Man as a place with "plenty of railways", but it was not until we travelled to the Isle of Man by cruise ship (see Cruise of the Vikings 2016) that we made the visit.

In the morning on the day of our visit, we took an arranged excursion on the Manx Electric Tramway (on which John got told off for folding the swing-over seat to face rearward, so he could take photos out the back of the train!), and returned to Douglas in time for a classic British pub lunch ( great beer! ) and then swung by the Douglas Station to see what we could see. We were just in time to catch the afternoon train, and were reassured by the guard that by changing trains at Balla Salla would would be back in time to reboard the cruise ship.

We only had enough money for one fare, but the guard was kind to us, and allowed us both to travel (thank you so much, Mr Anonymous Guard!), and indeed, all did go according to plan. We did not have much time at either end to take photos of the train, but what we did get is shown here. Hopefully we might get make one day to travel the full line to Peel.
