Description :
Another view of the Simpson Desert. This time the
monotony is broken by a shallow watercourse, crossing the track
at right angles in the middle distance. The track crosses the
watercourse on the level, that is, it dips into the valley,
across the creek bed, then up the other side. (There is usually
no water in these watercourses. When there is, the train doesn't
run!)
When crossing one of the larger watercourses, our train
couldn't get up the other side. The driver simply reversed back
as far as possible, then pulled full throttle! We rattled up the
other side, rocking and rolling as tho' there were waves of
water coming down the watercourse!
